Inspiratie!

Een van mijn favoriete fotografen! Ik ben in Den Haag geweest om haar
expositie te bekijken. Er waren 3 series te bewonderen: Immediate Family,
What Remains en Deep South. Hieronder wat foto’s van Immediate Family, die
een enorme indruk op me gemaakt hebben.

Erwitt (81) verwoordde zijn doelstellingen ooit zeer treffend: ‘It’s about reacting to what you see, hopefully without preconception. You can find pictures anywhere. It’s simply a matter of noticing them You just have to care what’s around you and have a concern with humanity and the human comedy.’

Erwitts favoriete onderwerpen zijn de mens en de onverwachte schoonheid van toevallig samenkomende objecten of gebeurtenissen die door de fotograaf in een kader gevangen kunnen worden. Erwitt vangt de humor of juist de absurditeit van onze alledaagse leefomgeving. Daarbij stralen zijn foto’s optimisme uit en ze ogen verrassend naturel en oprecht. Hij voorziet de foto’s van minimale informatie: plaats en jaartal. Alleen publieke figuren worden specifiek benoemd.
Erwitts houding tegenover het medium fotografie is veelzeggend: ‘I think it’s about time we started taking photography seriously by treating it just as a hobby.’
